{Sew} Modern Monday #18

Remember a few weeks back when I mentioned my little sister (although she's 17, she will forever be my "little" sister) was making her Senior Prom dress?  Well the day has come and gone and she looked fabulous!  The special day was cold, wet and rainy and while it didn't affect their fun, it did hinder the quality of pictures I was able to take.  So this past weekend Lindsey and I snapped a few more pictures for the blog.  So what better to place to share a prom dress made by a 17 year old than {Sew} Modern Monday?

My only sister Lindsey, six years younger than myself, is a Senior in high school this year. Along with the other momentous events that go along with the last year of high school, Senior Prom seems to stick out.  Lindsey has always been one who likes to stand out in the crowd so rather than purchase her prom dress this year, she decided to make her own.  Early in the planning stages she fell in love with this dress and it quickly became her inspiration.

Then one Saturday afternoon my mom, sister, and I set out in search of the perfect fabric and encountered a few bumps along the way.  Lindsey had her mind set on the aqua-green fabric (the one the dress was made out of) from the get go.  However, once we arrived at the fabric store we quickly realized the fabric color she had in mind had been discontinued a few weeks earlier. Bummer!  As you can imagine, panic set it.  

Then one of the sales associates came to the rescue and found some in the clearance section. Score!  We ended up getting the fabric for $2.99 per yard rather than the $10.99 per yard retail price.

Lindsey, with the guidance of our Queen Seamstress mom, hand beaded the entire bodice. 

When it was all said and done, the whole thing ended up costing about $60.00 which is a steal compared to the $318.00 price tag on the inspiration dress.  

I seriously [heart] this girl.

What do you think?  Pretty good for a 17 year old, yes? :)
