a good read.
a few weeks ago, i was chatting with my friend vanessa christenson and we got to talking about good books. after reading crossed by allyson condie together (and loving it!) i was desperate for another great read. without hesitation, vanessa suggested the hunger games series by suzanne collins. have you heard of it? if not, it is most definitely a MUST read. it's one of those, can't put it down to eat, sleep, or fold a load of laundry kind of books. you will be hooked in seconds, guaranteed. go check it out!
now i'm in need of another good read, any suggestions?
xo, megan.
Divergent by Veronica Roth - very Hunger Games in its feel, and equally gripping.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree, but I was so disappointed with Mockingjay. =/ I recommend The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay.
ReplyDeleteAnother brillant fantasy/science fiction writer is Neil Gaiman (writer behind the movies/novels Coraline and Stardust). He also recently did some writing for the Dr. Who series. I would recommend Neverwhere or American Gods.
ReplyDeleteWater for Elephants by Sara Gruen or Room by Emma Donoghue. My two favorite books I read this year. :)
ReplyDeleteMake sure you read the other 2 in the series - love it! I agree, the 3rd book is a little disappointing but you still have to find out what happens! :) I have all 3 on my kindle and am re-reading them on our international flight to/from Germany - 1 more to go for the flight home on the 1st! :)
ReplyDeleteI loved the Outlander series. I've read the first seven books and am awaiting the release of the eighth.
ReplyDeleteDude. :P make me a bracelet. ;)
ReplyDeleteI am reading Hunger Games too, I am on the second book Mockingjay and loving it, I'm also reading the Gone series by Michael Grant which is really good.
ReplyDeleteLoved this series of books. The movie is coming soon!!
ReplyDeleteI read these in the summer and still miss them...wow sooo good. Gonna check for info on the movie...
ReplyDeleteThe Ender series by Orson Scott Card is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that the final book, in my opinion, was exactly what it should have been! War is not happy, no one ever really wins, nor is there ever a truly "happy" ending. I just love love loved the Hunger Games!!
ReplyDeleteOn that random note, for something a bit lighter, the 500 Kingdoms series by Mercedes Lackey is awesome! Starts with The Fairy Godmother. It's definitely worth checking out!
I am reading the Beautiful Creatures series and it's really good too. Bordering on liking it more then Hunger Games!
ReplyDeleteReceived a Nook from my hubby for Christmas--my kids suggested 'The Hunger Games' for the first book.......can't put it down!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI just finished the 3rd Hunger Games book last night! That series is definitely worth a read - or a listen ;-) I'm an Audible.com kind of gal. You can listen while you sew. Word. The Girl with the Drago Tattoo series is waaaaaaay good. No third book disappointment there. The Time Traveler's Wife, The Help: both insanely awesome as audiobooks. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Also, Steve Jobs' autobiography was very interesting if you're into that sort of thing. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThese books are amazing. Another great one with a different feel from the Hunger Games is "Garden Spells" by Sarah Addison Allen. "A Discovery of Witches" is pretty awesome as well
