this week.

My creation

you may be wondering why things have been a bit quiet around here this past week. well the answer is, i've been babysitting hanging out with two 6 year olds (after school), two 3 year olds, and a baby all day for the past week. talk about lots of energy -- it really has been a fun week! and i've learned a few things along the way...

  • nap time rocks! although, maybe not on my bank account. i think i've ordered fabric from 4 different online stores during nap time this week. but that just means i have something to look forward to next week, right?
  • fashion is out the window. sweat pants+no make-up+pony tail (or should i say, the hair that isn't sticking out every.which.way!) has been my look all week long. i think the BF will be happy to see it go. :)
  • baby-food can fly. across the room. out of a mouth. enough said.
  • kids really do say the darndest things. you never know what's going to come out of a 3-year-old's mouth and it's usually best to just ignore it. we've talked about naked aliens, what chicken nuggets are made out of, who's eye is bloodier, and poop -- we've pretty much covered it all when it comes to poop.
  • bread crusts really are gross. it's hard to make a 3 year old eat the crust from a PB&J sandwich when you yourself, at 24 years old, still throw them away. :/
  • and somedays there's just not enough diet coke out there.

this week i have really come to appreciate where i'm at right in life right now -- 24 years old and being able to focus on my dreams+aspirations+goals whole heartedly. it's times like this that make me take a step back, be thankful for where i'm at+what i have, and stop trying to rush through life. and while i'm sure someday having a family+children will become a goal of mine, i'm not ready for it just yet. so to all of you mom bloggers out there, let me just say YOU ROCK! the simple fact you balance kids, husband, household, work, etc. and still manage to find time to blog, blows.my.mind. cheers to you all! :)

i can't wait to get back to my sewing machine+blogging this weekend!
xo, megan.

how's your week going?

  1. As a mom of three little girls, I know exactly what you're talking about. There are many wonderful things about parenthood, but peace, quiet, and sanity are not among them. Enjoy the season you're in now while you can. And let's hear it for Diet Coke! I would have collapsed years ago without it...

  2. Oh I love this post! I have two kids both under 3 and this is pretty much life for me now. I'm also 24 and a hater of crust, and I frequently need more diet coke to keep me going. It's a wonderful day when I actually get dressed before my husband comes home! I love the funny things they say too! We haven't discussed naked aliens yet, but did have to discuss what "nips" are and why mommy has bigger ones than daddy...haha!

(I'll confess to you also, that I've probably bought as much fabric as you have this week during nap time!)

Thanks for sharing such funny moments!

  4. Hilarious! Gosh I wish where you are in Iowa was just a bit closer to MSP, we always have a hard time finding an adult babysitters...and I have the basement beer fridge w/diet coke in it right next to the sewing room to offer as a perk! Enjoy your week.

  5. Very funny, I can relate only at the other end, all my kids are grown and married, and I now babysit, at least three days a week. All these young Moms who have a husband, kids, homeschool, blog, have a home business, craft up a storm...makes me tired just thinking about it!!! Just found your blog, glad I have. Have fun getting back to sewing...

  8. Died laughing as I read this...and of course had to share it with Ry. I'm glad you are enjoying it...although I'm sure you'll be ready to be done come the weekend. They adore you and we are so thankful you hve been able to watch them. And really...any time you have a craving for some good laughs (and an appreciation for your point in life)...I'll supply the diet coke. :)

  10. LMAO!!! I LOVE this post! My dearest friend in NY had me up for a visit and she was super busy and felt badly since I was left on my own. I kept telling her that me, reading a book without have to answer 35 questions before finishing the first sentence was AWESOME! I am also in LOVE with the QUIET CAR on Amtrack...the most brilliant thing ever! You are a genius to do these little things so that you know what to expect later in short bits now :o)

  13. LOL That's funny. I used to be able to get a lot done when I was home on my day's off from the day job. And recently my just turned two year old needs my attention for *everything* he is doing. I'm hoping his independent play gene will kick back in soon!

  14. I have 2 girls now, but they are older (10 and 7) so I sew after my "chores" are done in the morning. But this has only happened in the last 2 years! I made 3 quilts total when they were under age 5 so it is amazing to me when I see how much some women get done with all these little ones underfoot-and some even homeschool which I cannot even imagine. I hate to say it, but the back of that school bus looks nice some days, especially when I have a project in mind! This sewing business is such an obsession!!

  15. Thank you!! You've just described my daily life!! I've had normal jobs but being a full time mum is definitely the hardest and most exhausting. So worth it though :)
I'm pretty sure the only way to make it through is with full fat coke ;)

  16. Sounds like quite a week! I don't like to eat the crusts either. My mum always used to say 'If you don't eat your crusts you won't have curly hair.' Well, I didn't eat them and I have corkscrew curls, loads of 'em! LOL
Naked aliens made me LOL too :-)
