it's not always rainbows and butterflies.

blurgh

this is what happens when you get too excited to finish a project that you rush the process -- like skipping the spray baste. see how the mini quilt top has stretched+warped from the quilting? yep, not good. >:|

looks like i'm about to spend the rest of my afternoon with my seam ripper.

anyone else been there?

xo, megan.

  3. you know what they say- 'if you can't see it from a galloping horse, don't worry about it'! that's my quilting mantra.

  4. Maybe it's just a photo with slightly skewed perspective?
I recently had to buy a second seam ripper as my first one is already rather blunt.

  8. Oh bum! Haven't done that, but I have just paper pieced a letter backwards (and would probably have done the whole word if I hadn't glanced a little more closely when pressing the first one!

  9. Yes !! Just today it happened to me. I had to unpick a few rows pull the fabric straight then re-stitch it. I'll have pictures on my blog this weekend. =D

  10. Um, hardly ever been there. But you know why? Because I HATE basting the quilt sandwich. So I finish great quilt tops and then they sit in a pile. My goal is to completely change that around this year. I'm sorry about the one-on-one with your seam ripper...

  11. WHAT!?!?! Next you will be telling me no unicorns either :o( My favorite seam ripper ran away since he was getting too much use, I had to buy a new one but I am STILL looking for the other one...or at least a goodbye note ;o)

  13. I have never used spray basting, always pins. I feel behind the times sometimes but eh. LOL

  15. I guess it's easier to tell on a mini but I probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. I 'm a pin-baster and I do get the odd pucker or stretch but spray-baste is $25 a can up here and the warning label on it makes me leery. I guess I always embrace the imperfection as proof that I made it. :-) Oh, and I hate my seam ripper. I have to use it far too often for regular seams. Taking out quilting stitches makes me sad. However, if you're not happy with it, you're not happy with it, and I respect your need to better it and would lend my seam-ripping skills to help, if I lived nearby. :-)

  16. I ripped out my quilting twice this week on the same mini(for Ellison Lane Jennifer's) challenge. I feel your frustration.

  17. Oh no! That was a lot of stitches to rip!

  18. I wouldn't have noticed. When that happens I stand back, squint and if I can still see a mistake... no I still wouldn't bother unpicking!! Clearly you're a better quilter than I ;)

  19. I never would have noticed. In fact, I stared at it for a really really long time. Maybe it was more obvious in person. In any case, I let out a shriek of joy when the page loaded and I saw all of those freakin' cute fabrics ;-)

  21. The final product is BEAUTIFUL! I love this quilt! However, I have some questions about the basting. I am new to quilting and have not yet tackled the finishing of a quilt! Do you normally spray baste AND pin together? What type of spray basting do you use?

  22. It's compromise that moves us along...just had to finish the lyric!

This happened to me as well last weekend. My spray baste can malfunctioned so I said screw that, it's only a mini quilt. Yeah.

Looks like it turned out beautifully in the end though!
